Remember when the internet was kissing the ground Laci Green walked on for about a month? She seemed to be everyone’s champion, dispelling harmful myths with her quirky, simple, and informative videos.
I just want to know: are all of her videos worthless pieces of garbage now? They certainly taught me things I’d never known about due to my limited public school education. And I think that was the point. They served their exact intended purpose.
But because someone went digging through the annals of the internet and found a video of her using the word ‘tranny’ all of the rest of the information she shared with the world is completely invalidated? You know what? Four or five years ago I was probably still using that same word. Why? Because I had not yet been exposed to a world that included transsexuals, transgendered individuals, drag queens, etc. and learned the preferred terminology of each individual group. I was ignorant, but I was willing to change. I’m willing to wager pretty heavily that Laci Green is the same way. Groups that have had no prominence or publicity in the past are slowly working their way into the mainstream. Until they have enough exposure, individuals can’t really be expected to understand or properly address people within these groups.
But even after an issued apology and retraction of the video, people thought it was ok to send death threats and make life on the internet impossible for this girl? Last I checked bullying should theoretically be a greater sin in the social justice community than political incorrectness.
Please recognize that value can exist in flawed individuals and they (like any of the marginalized groups you claim to defend) do not deserved to be harassed and silenced.
